PCR can often be used to identify bacterial and fungal pathogens by means of their 16s ribosomal RNA sequences. Therefore, microLYSIS® infected blood systems can be used very effectively to save time and effort. This is because separation of the pathogens from blood cells followed by microLYSIS® can be immediately used for PCR identification of the pathogen without the necessity to purify DNA.
microLYSIS® for infected blood is a two step method. The kit contains two lysis solutions, RB buffer and microLYSIS®. The RB buffer is added directly to blood. It ruptures the red and white blood cells but not the pathogens. The pathogens are then harvested by a single centrifugation step and resuspended in microLYSIS®. A standard thermal cycling procedure releases the pathogenic DNA allowing further analysis by PCR.
