The PowerMaxSoil™ DNA Isolation Kit utilizes reagents from the PowerSoil™ DNA Isolation Kit to extract DNA from up to 10grams of soil. The reagents use a novel and proprietary method* for removing PCR inhibiting compounds, including humic substances, and the brown color often associated with soil DNA. The kit is intended for use with all common soil types, but in particular, with environmental samples that traditionally contain a high humic substance content, including compost, sediment and manure. PCR analysis has been used to amplify DNA purified using the PowerMax™ Soil DNA Isolation Kit from bacteria (e.g. acillus subtilis, Bacillus anthracis), fungi (e.g. yeasts, molds), algae, and actinomycetes (e.g. Streptomyces).
The PowerMax™ Soil DNA Kit distinguishes itself from Mo Bio's UltraClean™ Soil DNA Isolation Kit with a NEW humic substance/brown color removal procedure. This new procedure is effective at removing PCR inhibitors from even the most difficult soil types.
To purify DNA, the environmental sample is added to a bead beating tube (included in kit) for rapid and thorough homogenization. Cell lysis occurs by mechanical and chemical methods. Total genomic DNA is then captured on a silica membrane in a spin column, washed and eluted from the spin column. DNA is ready for PCR analysis and other downstream applications.
